You may use the owners' swimming pool in the Spring and Autumn. We are situated in the rural hamlet of Christine. The land extends for almost 2 acres, surrounded by oak and acacia woodland. To the front of the house, over the wall from the pool, we have a quiet, scented herb garden with magnificent views to the Pyrenees. To the rear of the house is a walled garden with flowers, herbs and vegetables. Since this is such a superb, flat area, cycling is a pleasure. So, available for your use, there are adult and child bikes with helmets. The farmhouse sitting room contains a video collection for adults and children. There are also books, games and an up to date tourist information corner. Although located in a rural setting, Ferme Christine has excellent road links across the department if you are house hunting. The farmhouse is a short bike or car ride (5km) to the nearest village of La Tour du Crieu, with local shops, including a café, supermarket and Post Office. Christine is situated in the département of the Ariège, which is part of the Midi Pyrenees region. With its three medieval cathedrals, the largest town of 14 000 inhabitants is Pamiers. It has excellent shopping, pleasant cafés and restaurants, a market in the town square on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Pamiers is the birthplace of the composer Gabriel Fauré. To the south, a 20-minute drive away, is Foix, the capital. Medieval Foix has an imposing Castle with spectacular views. Again there are pleasant cafés, restaurants and a Friday market. This area of the Ariege is called the land of the Cathars, a 12th century movement regarded as heretical by the Catholic Church. Its legacy includes Montségur, and other castles perched on mountaintops. This legendary area is believed by many to be the home of the Holy Grail. To the east, a 25-minute drive brings you to the unmissable city of Mirepoix, which boasts a cathedral, a beautiful, medieval square with excellent cafés, restaurants and local market.
