Andalucia is Spain's southernmost and largest region with a rich cultural history expressed in the ancient Moorish centres at Seville, Granada and Cordoba. The Alpujarras lie between the snow-capped Sierra Nevada and the sun-drenched beaches of the Costa Tropical. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Andalucia. The Moors came to settle here after they were expelled from Granada and the whitewashed villages still retain an ancient Arab influence. Location: Set in the countryside with superb mountain views, between Mecina and Ferreirola, two of the white villages below Pitres. The property is away from the road between the two villages, with its own short track leading to the front door. There are three bar/restaurants within walking distance, and a swimming pool at Pitres open during summer. The white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capiliera are close by, and the beaches of the Costa Tropical are only an hour away. The high mountains of the Sierra Nevada can be reached in 20 minutes, and the Moorish capital of Granada in only an hour. Accommodation: The typical Alpujarran whitewashed cottage is the perfect retreat for a couple or family of four. It has two ensuite bedrooms - one double and one twin. Both bedrooms have electric radiators. Both bathrooms have shower, toilet and wash basin. There is a fully equipped kitchen/dining room with oven and hob, fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, and dining table and chairs for four. The cosy lounge has woodburner, television, and seating for four. Outside there are shady patios and a sun terrace set amongst the peach and cherry trees in the garden. The area: The cottage is set in the heart of the Alpujarra mountains, and is ideally situated for mountain walking. There are numerous waymarked walks in the area. Many of the local villages have bars and restaurants, and the nearest is only a ten minute walk away. The market town of Orgiva (30 min drive) has a range of shops, restaurants and bars. The 'high villages' of the Poqueira gorge offer horse riding, hang gliding, mountain biking, and guided walks and 4 wheel drive tours in the Sierra Nevada. The beach at Salobrena had pedal boats for hire, boat trips, sunbeds and table tennis. The Alhambra palace at Granada is an hour away. | ||
