Although primarily a private holiday retreat for the owners, Dalnaglar is open for exclusive rental by a few groups of paying guests per year. The castle can also be the venue for small weddings.

Dalnaglar Castle is set on a beautiful naturally elevated site in the heart of Glenshee, which translates as 'The Valley of Peace' and is known locally as 'the fairy glen'. Originally an 18th century hunting lodge, Dalnaglar Castle was commissioned by Lord Clyde, Queen Victoria's banker, and designed by Her Majesty's architect from Balmoral.

This Victorian Castle is let as a whole and each party of guests has exclusive use of a beautiful house with inclusive service.

Prices include full Scottish breakfast, 4-course evening meal with champagne before, wine during and spirits afterwards.

Dalnaglar Castle has recently been extensively refurbished to give the complete combination of 21st century facilities and conveniences, including computerised heating and plumbing, while retaining the character of a spacious stately home.

The residence has 9 well-appointed en-suite bedrooms for 18 guests and further modernised accommodation available within the Castle grounds for a further 20 visitors.

The entire property, which includes the extremely comfortable and elegant drawing room and library, together with other reception rooms, is available to each company of guests on a complete basis.

All this comes with in-house staff and regional cuisine, which is freshly prepared using local produce.

Situated in one of Scotland's most rugged and spectacularly beautiful glens, Dalnaglar Castle lies above the flat water meadows of Shee Water, which meanders down the wooded vale. No matter which direction you choose to travel in to Dalnaglar, you will find some of the most stunning mountain scenery in Scotland.

The glen provides one of the main routes through the lower Grampians. To the south, just 30 miles away, is the beautiful and historic city of Perth. Also within easy reach, Edinburgh is a mere two hours distant. To the west are Pitlochry and The House of Bruar - known as 'the Harrods of Scotland' - and Balmoral lies to the north.
Indeed, Dalnaglar is ideally situated for visits to many other famous Castles and historic sites.

Our expert staff will be more than happy to arrange the leisure interests our guests may require. A comprehensive range of activities associated with Highland Scotland is available including stalking, fishing, hawks, driven and walked-up shooting.

The Estate is 8 miles from the Spittal of Glenshee ski resort, and within easy reach of fabulous sightseeing and a multitude of other activities.

There is much available within the estate itself where we aim to offer our guests a memorable visit with quality sport in beautiful countryside. Our ghillies are very professional, and can assist the inexperienced, as well as host superb days out for the more experienced.

Golf
Our local courses are: Braemar (the highest course in Scotland, and possibly the most breath-taking, with the Cairngorm Mountains rising up each side of the course), also the Championship course at Rosemount and Blairgowrie, or the smart professional course at Glenisla. In total there are over 100 golf courses in the surrounding area including Gleneagles (90 minutes) and St. Andrews. We are happy to make any arrangements you may need for your golfing needs.

Fishing
We have salmon fishing on a mile of the Shee Water, which is a tributary of the Tay, and borders part of the Estate. The season runs from mid January until the beginning of October. The cost of a ‘rod’ per day is £30 or, if you would like knowledgeable help, (much recommended as salmon are clever creatures!) our Ghillie is available for £40 - £60 per day, and can assist up to 3 rods. Salmon fishing rods are available to hire for use on and off the Estate.
Brown trout are plentiful in the scenic estate loch which is surrounded by enormous Douglas Spruce. Some very big fish have been caught and the loch has not been fished heavily for a number of years. You are welcome to fish with or without the boat, the cost per rod per day is £25. Our Ghillie is available to assist. Rods and flies can be hired from the Estate from £10 per day.
