Scottish Tourist Board 4 Star Small Hotel in Wester Ross

Dinner, B&B per person per night: £70 / Special rates for 3, 5, 7 nights

The Old Mill offers you a warm welcome, good food and wine, and the chance to enjoy complete tranquillity in one of the most spectacular areas of Scotland.

It was completed as a purpose-built Highland lodge in 1976, on the site of a former grain store and horse mill.

We offer a choice of accommodation in 6 spacious ensuite bedrooms (3 twin and 3 double), all with hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities.

We have a sun lounge next to our dining room, as well as a large lounge upstairs, both of which overlook the garden.

Our 2 acres of landscaped grounds have matured into a true paradise of flowers, heathers, trees and shrubs.

The panoramic view from this lovely garden takes in the unforgettable sight of Slioch, the finest mountain landmark in Wester Ross.

On one side of the lodge is the crystal clear mountain stream which brings us the cleanest water in the land. On the other is a restful summer house beside a tinkling burn and a quiet pond.

Food is plentiful, home-cooked fare using local beef, game and seafood. Enjoy a pre-dinner drink while you look over our wine list, and after your meal, there's an interesting selection of malt whiskies to choose from.

Breakfast is as big as you want before you set out on your day's walking or touring.

The Old Mill is situated in Talladale, by magnificent island-dotted Loch Maree within the National Scenic Area of Wester Ross.
This tiny hamlet was named by Norsemen, in whose language 'talla' meant 'hall' and 'dal' meant 'flat field'. With only three permanent residents, this is one of the smallest communities in the British Isles.

We are ideally situated as a base for touring Wester Ross, the Highlands and Skye.
Explore scenic villages, sea views, empty beaches and mountain wilderness.

If you don't want to venture far, then access to forest tracks and hill/mountain walks is nearby. The Visitor Centre of the Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve is a good starting point.

An abundance of wildlife may be seen such as red & roe deer, otters, pine marten and the occasional wildcat. Birdwatchers may be able to spot golden eagles, sea eagles, barn owls, buzzards, peregrine falcons, golden plover, greenshank, and the rare black throated diver.

Gairloch (9 miles to the north-west of Talladale) has shops, restaurants, pubs, a heritage museum, a 9-hole golf course and a clean sandy beach. Pony trekking and boat trips are available nearby.
Drive a little further northwards and you will come to the glorious Inverewe Gardens, now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. This coastal road overlooking Loch Ewe and Gruinard Bay is a photographer's delight.
A day trip southwards from Kinlochewe could take you to the Torridon mountains, the remote Applecross peninsula, the palm tree lined village of Plockton or on to the Isle of Skye.
