City of Perth Located on the A9, “the Highland Road”, within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow, Perth is a thriving market town. Destroyed by successive waves of invaders, including English kings, followers of the Reformation, and Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads, the city is largely an early 19th-century creation. Central Perth has many handsome buildings, especially in the area overlooking the wide River Tay. An excellent local museum, art gallery, repertory theatre, and the Museum of the Black Watch (a famous Scottish army regiment) are just some of the attractions.

Golf - There is a local golf course and the Gannochy Trust Sports Complex within a few miles of the house. We are also within easy driving distance of the internationally renowned courses at Carnoustie and St Andrews.

Castles and Gardens - Blair Castle - Over 700 years of Scottish history awaits the visitor to Blair Castle. Today, 32 rooms of infinite variety display beautiful furniture, fine paintings, arms and armour, china, costumes, lace and embroidery, masonic regalia, Jacobite relics and other unique treasures. Together, they present a stirring picture of Scottish life from the 16th century to the present day. The imposing Entrance Hall, with its magnificent collection of arms, sets the standard for a tour around this famous and historic Scottish castle.

Glamis Castle - Daniel Defoe, writing in the early 18th century, expressed wonder at Glamis's many spires, turrets, towers and statues and likened the place to a city. The modern visitor seeing the Castle for the first time cannot but draw breath in admiration as did Defoe. In the late 17th century, there were outer defences of walls and towers enclosing formal parterres. Finally completed in the early 19th century, the park now resembles the surroundings of an English Palladian mansion and contrasts strongly with the rugged, ancient and mysterious castle which dominates it.

Drummond Castle Gardens - Scotland's most important formal gardens are among the finest in Europe. The upper terraces offer stunning views and overlook a magnificent parterre celebrating the saltire, the three rivers of Perthshire and the famous multiplex sundial by John Milne, Master Mason to Charles I. The gardens were first laid out in the early 17th century by John Drummond, the 2nd Earl of Perth. The gardens you see today were renewed by Phyllis Astor in the early 1950's, preserving features such as the ancient yew hedges and the copper beech trees planted by Queen Victoria to commemorate her visit in 1842.

Scone Palace - The highlight of the city of Perth is the sumptuous Scone Palace, where Scottish kings were crowned. Scone Palace is the family seat of the Earls of Mansfield. Beside the Palace, the Moot Hill was the ancient Crowning Place of the Kings of Scots and the original site of the Stone of Destiny. The Palace is a major tourist attraction as well as a popular venue for hospitality and high quality private functions.

Other Places of Interest - Crathes Castle and Gardens, Falkland Palace, Discovery Point (Dundee), Burrell Collection (Glasgow), Royal Yacht Britannia (Edinburgh), Glendoick Nursery
