You can also take a trip on a steam train to the vibrant town of Fort William, which nestles under Ben Nevis to the south, and which lays good claim to being the Outdoor Capital of Britain. The Beach, with its fantastic views across the sound to the small islands, pristine white sands and clear water is a truly magical place that adults, children and dogs will all love! Glenancross House is a substantial, comfortable and relaxing traditional Scottish farmhouse, which happily accommodates 12 in six bedrooms. It boasts a large farmhouse style kitchen with oil fired Aga and a spacious living room with coal burning stove there is access off the living room to a sunroom leading out to a large enclosed garden laid to lawn. There are 6 bedrooms; three double, two of which are en-suite, two twin bedrooms and a twin bedroom with full sized bunk beds. In addition there is a bathroom, cloakroom and loo. The farmhouse is very well equipped with modern kitchen equipment including dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer and popcorn maker. The Aga is supplemented by an electrical hob and oven making cooking a pleasure. The farmhouse has a DVD player, television, stereo and a selection of books, games and children’s toys. Mallaig is a busy fishing village with a swimming pool, Heritage Centre, Marine World and numerous shops. From here you can sail over the sea to Skye on one of the frequent ferry crossings and be back in time for dinner. Boat trips are also possible from Mallaig to Knoydart and the islands of Eigg, Rum, Muck & Canna. Other cruises to the Small Isles are available from Arisaig (7 miles away). Arisaig and Mallaig have numerous restaurants and bars where you can enjoy fresh local seafood and produce. A 5 minute walk from the cottage will take you to a small sandy beach.
You can also explore the Silver Sands of Morar (photo right), Camusdarach & Traigh which are all within 3 - 5 miles.
Whether you arrive by car or train, you will follow the Road to the Isles which passes through magnificent Highland scenery. The Jacobite Steam train runs between Fort William and Mallaig (June - September only) on what is regarded as one of the most scenic rail journeys in UK
