Idyllic situation with superb views over farmland and the Grizedale Forest, with miles of walking from the door. There are three double/twin rooms, all ensuite. We offer B& B and optional three-course evening meal, with imaginative cooking. Situated just south of picturesque Hawkshead, Grizedale Forest Park is the Forestry Commission's flagship leisure and amenity forest in the heart of the Lakes. Eight thousand acres of mixed woodlands, criss-crossed by footpaths, bike trails, green lanes, sculpture trails and forest tracks, the area offers wonderful walking, biking and bird-watching. From many points there are superb views of Coniston, the Langdales and the central lake ranges, combined with easy walking over miles of undulating forested fells. Discover Satterthwaite, a hamlet of around fifty houses in a broad valley clearing only a mile from the Grizedale visitor centre. Via the forest trails, there are walks to three of the lakes; Coniston Water, Windermere and Esthwaite Water. John Ruskin's Brantwood and Beatrix Potter's Hill Top at Near Sawrey are close by. To the south is the beautiful and forgotten Rusland Valley, quiet all year and offering pleasant rambles and treasures such as Rusland Church with the grave of Arthur Ransome. pppn.
