Traditional fishermans cottage a few steps from Porthleven Harbour in Cornwall

2003: sleeps up to 5 at a squeeze! From £170 per week. £128 for short breaks.

Tessa's Cottage is well over 200 years old. The building has been used for a donkey stable, a sail loft and a fisherman's cottage. Today it is a charming one bedroomed cottage, only a minutes flat walk from the centre of Porthleven. The cottage is in one of the small walkways just off the harbour, snugly protected from the winter storms.

This delightful cottage has been carefully converted over the years by a ship builder, which is evident in the effective use of space, the galley style kitchen and touches such as the built in mahogany window seating and wall inset book shelves. It has been decorated in a traditional and restful way to a high standard.

The cottage can sleep up to 5 people, at a squeeze! There is a double bed and a single sofa bed in the bedroom, and a double sofa bed in the living room. Duvets and linen will be supplied.

Tessa's Cottage is excellent for exploring West Cornwall and both the South and North coasts, including the Eden project and The National Maritime Museum at Falmouth. The Lizard Peninsula and the historic Helston Town, home of the Flora Dance, are well worth exploring. Our extensive web site gives you lots of ideas for your holiday in Cornwall.

Compact cottage - Views over Mounts Bay - Available all year round

From £170 per week / Sleeps 2

Pentre Cottage is quietly located within the grounds of Pentre House commanding an elevated position that enjoys views over Mounts Bay. Being just a few minutes walk from Porthleven beach and the village & harbour, it is ideally situated to enjoy the peacefulness of this quiet and secluded ancient port that retains much charm, character and a wealth of history. Porthleven is the most southerly port on the UK mainland, and the only west facing port in Cornwall. It is situated on the Atlantic Coastline just south of Helston (the most southerly town in England). Porthleven is a popular vacation destination all year round and is an ideal location from which to explore the southwestern-most part of England; being close to The Lizard, Penzance, Newlyn, Marazion (& St Michael's Mount), Mousehole, Lands End, St Ives, the Port of Falmouth (& the new Maritime Museum), the ancient town of Helston and Truro, the Cathedral City. And not to forget the Eden Project that is not too far away. During the day there's plenty to do locally. There are some three miles of golden beach to relax upon. Alternatively, taking a stroll along the coastal walks will reveal spectacular views over Mounts Bay to the west or, to the east, Loe Bar; a silted area that separates the sea from Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest inland freshwater lake (owned by The National Trust and open to the public). For the less sedentary occupations there are many water borne activities to enjoy; for example boat and fishing trips. And whilst the sea can be very dangerous along this coastline, Porthleven is a popular destination for those seeking the surf. And if you time your visit well you may witness various spectacular events that take place around the Harbour, the most important being the Lifeboat and Gig days (when traditional working boats are raced). The Harbour is the focal point of the village and there are many craft shops, a pottery, an art gallery and a stained glass studio. For the needs of the self caterers there is a butcher, baker, a fishmonger of course and a good supermarket that has a small but fine delicatessen. There are also two traditional fish & chip take-away restaurants, a pasty shop (the 'pasty' is traditional Cornish fare) and various other local shops including a Post Office. And just in case of mishaps, there is a chemist and a doctor's surgery. In the evenings visitors taking a stroll around the old harbour will discover the hospitality of several fine restaurants, some specialising (unsurprisingly) in fish; and three very friendly inns that also serve excellent meals. We hope that you visit Porthleven and enjoy its peacefulness and its hospitality. We are confident that once you have discovered Porthleven you will want to return.
