Casa Berenjena: 3 bedrooms sleeping 6 A renovated village house in Mecina Fondales, one of the unspoilt white villages in the Alpujarras. The village is on one of the many walking and hiking trails that cover the Sierra Nevada area. The houses is set in the south facing side of a river valley and has dramatic views of the mountains from its sun terrace. The village has 5 bar/restaurants within walking distance, including one with a French chef specialising in vegetarian dishes. The house is fully equipped and furnished to a high standard. Bedrooms 2 & 3 both have two single beds. Main bathroom is accessed through bedroom 3 and has shower, basin, toilet and washing machine. Second bathroom has shower cubicle, basin and toilet. Dining Room with wood burning stove, large table and six chairs, TV. Large country style kitchen with feature fireplace, cooking range, microwave, fridge/freezer, crockery and cutlery for six, table and chairs. Large Lounge with wood-burning stove, two comfortable sofas, further seating area, feature fireplace, views to mountain. Further reception room with double doors leading to sun terrace. The balcony area has views to mountains and is covered with a grape vine. OUTSIDE: Sun terrace with stunning views of the mountains. PETS: No COAST/BEACH: 1 hour AIRPORT: Malaga (2 hours) CAR HIRE: Essential, advice can be given. CHANGEOVER DAY: Flexible FURTHER DETAILS: The immediate vicinity offers walking, mountain biking and horse trekking, or simply relax on the terrace and soak up the sun. The closest restaurant, El Aljibe, is in our opinion one of the best in the whole region. The bars in this region still offer complimentary tapas with your drinks and the locals plough their fields using mules. The nearby town of Pitres (5kms) has a swimming pool as well as a larger choice of bars and restaurants and two mini supermarkets. Further afield, the Moorish city of Granada beckons, and a visit to the Alhambra Palace is not to be missed. The coast near Salobreñar is only an hour's drive away. The Sierra Nevada natural park is over 170,000 hectares in size and contains the peaks of Alcazaba, Veleta and Mulhacén, all over 3,000 metres. The high peaks form a spectacular backdrop, being dusted with snow for much of the year. One of the best times to visit is spring, which in Andalucia starts in February. At this time the wild flowers and the fruit and almond blossoms are at their best. There is a wide variety of deciduous trees within the area that offer wonderful colour changes during autumn.
