The Little Shell House - (Self Catering) The Little Shell House between Bembridge and Ryde St Helens Green Isle of Wight England PO33 1UQ Telephone 0208 449 8867 Pretty, Immaculately maintained self catering Victorian Cottage on St Helens village Greeen. £195 to £480 sleeps 4/5 The Little Shell House overlooks St Helens village green and has views south, out across picturesque Bembridge Harbour and distant Culver downland. It was, for many years, a major tourist attraction. Since then it has been renovated for use as a modern, self-catering holiday home whilst retaining its original mid-19th century charm and many of the shell designs which still delight young and old alike. The accommodation consists of a sitting-room with gas flame fire, colour television and carefully chosen, comfortable furniture to match the character of the property. There is a dining area, separate kitchen and bathroom with both a bath and a shower. Facilities include electric cooker, microwave, fridge, mini-freezer, washing machine, iron and ironing board. Upstairs there is one double bedroom, one twin and a second toilet. Additional sleeping accommodation is available on a double, sprung sofa bed in the sitting-room downstairs. At the rear of the property is a small, fully enclosed courtyard garden with garden furniture. All living rooms have electric wall heaters. Heating and electricity per week is included in the price. Duvets, pillows and blankets, are provided but you need to bring sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. Bedding is available at an extra cost of £8.00 per bed. A travel cot and high chair are available if required, free of charge. Please indicate requirement when booking. Cars may be parked easily on the road just outside the property. The house is available from 3pm on Saturday to 10.30am the following Saturday. Out of the main holiday season short stays can be arranged. THE LITTLE SHELL HOUSE IS A NON-SMOKING HOUSE (sorry no pets either) St Helens Village The nine - acre green at St Helens is one of the largest in England. It now provides cricket and football pitches, a children's playground and seats. The varied old houses surrounding the green are all full of character - some of them date back to the 1600's. Locality The walk down to the award winning beach takes you along the old mill wall across the harbour, and on to the Duver. This is a wide area of grass and sand dunes with many rare flowers, which stretches from the sea all along the north bank of Bembridge harbour. The beach is completely unspoilt, and leads on to the beautiful National Trust-owned Priory Bay, with its wooded slopes leading down to a sweeping stretch of sand, where low tide reveals rock pools and shallow lagoons. You can return to the village along paths which wind up through the woods. If you prefer to take your car, it is just a 2 minute drive to the beach. There are many well signposted footpaths and bridleways which lead from the village. The varied geography offers excellent walking, cycling, bird watching, fishing and boating. There is a village pub, post office and general shop, and several restaurants. The village is on a bus route. Within 10 minutes drive is a large Tesco supermarket. Weekly Charges for 2006 are as follows: Jan 7 -May 27 £195 May 27-July 1 £270 July 1 -July22 £355 July 22-Sept 2 £480 Sept 2 - Sept 23 £270 Sept 23 - Jan 6 £195 Fom October to Easter short stays can be arranged at a cost of £33 per night, for a minimum of 3 nights. Telephone bookings are accepted provided written confirmation is received within 7 days, together with a deposit of £40 per week. The balance is due 21 days before arrival. In the event of cancellation, deposits are not returnable unless the week is re-let.
